From Factory Floor to Global Fortress

Stay where it's safe. Off-script

What if staying exactly where you are is actually more frightening than taking the risk to change?

OFF-SCRIPT & UNSTOPPABLE is Graham Harris's memoir — the true story of a shy, unqualified factory worker who was terrified of staying exactly where he was, and did something about it anyway. THE BOOK IS AVAILABLE NOW ON AMAZON. This is where the story starts, before the book does.

It’s not really a book about print.

It's easy to look at Graham Harris and see a business story: a factory worker who built something used across a global industry. That's true — but it's not what this book is about.OFF-SCRIPT & UNSTOPPABLE is about the person behind that success: the fear before any of it happened, the mistakes made along the way, the setbacks nobody saw, and the self-doubt that nearly kept him exactly where he started. The business is the backdrop. The decision to change direction is the story.

-Who this book is really for

This probably isn't who you think.

You don't need to work in print — or want to start a business — for this book to be about you. It's for anyone who recognises themselves in at least one of these.

  • Feel stuck in a job you've outgrown

  • Have an idea, but not the confidence to act on it

  • Feel overlooked or unheard at work

  • Have made mistakes you still let define you

  • Feel like you've already missed your opportunity

  • Wonder whether it's too late to change direction

  • Need the motivation to take that first step

-What you'll take away

Not a business book. A permission slip.

  • You don't need to have everything figured out to begin.

  • Your mistakes don't have to define you.

  • Being unqualified doesn't mean you're incapable.

  • Failure doesn't have to be the end of your story.

  • Staying safe is sometimes the bigger risk.

  • It's never too late to rewrite your story.

-The person, before the company

A shy, unqualified factory worker who wanted a way out.

Graham Harris didn't grow up with a plan. He left school at sixteen with no qualifications and found himself on a factory floor, doing a job he’d fallen into rather than chosen. What happened between that factory floor and the global business he eventually built wasn't a straight line — it was a long series of frightened, uncertain decisions made by someone who didn't feel remotely ready for any of them. His achievements give this story credibility. They aren't the reason to read it. The reason is everything that happened before them

A taste of the writing, not just the pitch.

  • Then one rainy morning, sitting alone in my car before work, everything came into sharp focus. I was thirty-six years old. I had secure management, a decent salary, a mortgage, a wife, and two young children. On paper, my life looked completely fine.

  • But staring through the rain on the windscreen, I suddenly saw my entire future—exactly how it would look some twenty years later. I could vividly picture the grey-haired version of me, still setting production schedules in the exact same factory environment.

  • That frightened me.

-A few of the stories inside

You'll want to know how these end.

The young man who nearly died.

At nineteen, a night of heavy drinking ended with Graham being hit by a car and nearly losing his life. What followed forced him to look differently at the direction his life was heading.

The factory worker who went looking for an idea.

One lunchtime conversation made something that had always seemed impossible suddenly feel possible. So he started looking for a problem everyone else had learned to live with.

The fear of staying where you are.

The risk everyone warns you about isn't always the biggest one on the table.

The meeting that could have changed everything.

After a year of trying to get through the door at Heidelberg, Graham finally found himself in Germany demonstrating his invention — and then walked away from the deal they offered him.

The decision to take the risk.

There was no master plan. Just one decision followed by another as the opportunities — and the problems — appeared.

-Why I wrote this

“I wrote this book after stepping back from the business and looking at the whole journey from the other side. Some of it was uncomfortable to write. But if being open about the mistakes, the failures and the things I got right helps someone who feels there should be more to their life, then it was worth writing.”
